Boiler leaks water or pressure drops

If pressure drops often or you see water under the boiler, the cause can be inside the boiler or somewhere on the heating installation. A photo of the pressure gauge and the wet area helps evaluation.

Possible causes

  • loose valve, connector or gasket;
  • safety valve releasing water;
  • expansion vessel pressure issue;
  • automatic air vent or heat exchanger problem;
  • leak on radiators or heating pipes.

What to check

  • note pressure when cold and warm;
  • photograph the wet area and pressure gauge;
  • check whether water appears near the boiler or elsewhere;
  • do not keep refilling without finding the cause.

When to request service

If the leak repeats, pressure drops quickly or the boiler enters fault mode, qualified inspection is recommended. If you smell gas, shut off gas supply, ventilate and call the emergency number immediately.
