Heating

Boiler loses pressure

Repeated boiler pressure drop indicates water loss or an expansion issue in the heating installation.

Possible causes

  • small leak at radiators or fittings
  • safety valve releasing water
  • expansion vessel without proper pressure
  • automatic air vent leaking
  • internal leak in boiler or exchanger

What to observe

  • how fast pressure drops
  • whether it drops only cold or also hot
  • water marks under the boiler
  • wet radiators or pipes
  • whether the safety valve drain has water

What helps estimation

Photos of the pressure gauge, boiler and areas with water marks help define the required checks.
