Solar panels produce less than expected

Low production may be normal in certain conditions, but it can also indicate a panel, string, inverter or monitoring issue.

Possible causes

  • partial shading on panels
  • dirty or covered panels
  • disconnected string or tripped DC protection
  • grid limitation or inverter setting
  • unfavorable orientation/tilt

What to send

  • screenshot from monitoring app
  • photos of inverter and displayed codes
  • photos of panels if visually accessible
  • expected production compared to observed
  • date and time when issue was observed

Inspection

Analysis is correlated with weather, time, orientation, inverter configuration and production history.
