Submersible pump not starting

A submersible pump that does not start can have an electrical, control or mechanical problem.

Possible causes

  • no voltage or tripped breaker
  • faulty pressure switch or float
  • damaged submersible cable
  • thermal protection active
  • blocked or burnt pump

What to note

  • whether any noise is heard when it should start
  • pressure shown on the installation
  • there is a control panel or presscontrol
  • pump is in well, basin or tank

Safety

Do not work on electrical connections in wet areas. Submersible pump supply and cable insulation should be checked with proper instruments.
