RCD protection

RCD will not reset

If the RCD trips immediately after reset, there is usually leakage to earth or a faulty appliance.

Possible causes

  • faulty appliance
  • moisture in a socket or junction box
  • damaged outdoor cable
  • bathroom, yard or pump circuit issue
  • faulty RCD

Useful steps

  • disconnect appliances from affected sockets
  • turn off secondary circuits if the panel allows it and you know what you are doing
  • observe whether it appears after rain or after an appliance starts
  • do not bypass the RCD

Important

The RCD is there for personal safety. It should not be bypassed to “solve” the problem.
